Artichoke (Tavor)

One plant in a 3.5” pot. Cold-hardy perennial.

A perennial that will usually survive our winters. We’ve found survival odds to be much better if you mulch its crown with a flake of hay (or something similar), and plant it in a spot with very-well-draining soil.

We grow artichokes more because we enjoy the aesthetics of a beautiful, prehistoric-looking plant, and less because of the harvest. An established plant will give you one large (but not quite Costco-sized) artichoke per season, plus several smaller ones. If left unharvested, they turn into beautiful, purple, thistle-like flowers (without all the spines that cover thistle plants).
