One clump in a 4.5” pot. Frost-tolerant, self-seeding annual.
One of those plants that tolerates marginal soils, and marginal conditions. In our experience, this makes it a great ‘border plant’ - it’s especially happy alongside sidewalks, gravel pathways, or fencelines. It self-seeds reliably, but not aggressively. We like to gather a few seed pods in late summer (before they pop open) then sprinkle the seeds around the less fertile parts of the yard, which usually results in a couple plants here and there the following spring.
Take care when transplanting (the roots are more sensitive than most of our drought-tolerant plants), and make sure the soil stays moist (but not saturated - it’s a delicate balance) for the first few weeks after planting out.
