Comfrey (Bocking 14)

One plant in a 4.5” pot. Cold-hardy perennial.

A common plant in permaculture-inspired landscapes, comfrey is often referred to as a ‘nutrient accumulator’. Its roots absorb nutrients from deep in the soil, which are then stored in its lush leaves. When those leaves die in the fall, and start to decompose in a thick layer of mulch, those nutrients become more easily available to the shallower-rooted plants in your landscape.

We like planting comfrey close to our fruit trees, whose ‘feeder roots’ near the surface of the soil benefit from comfrey’s nutrient accumulation. Comfrey also adds a lot of green to the landscape, especially nice for a young landscape where your trees are still getting established.
